Those who know John Gay are not at all surprised by his success and he is quick to acknowledge those who have made and impact on his life. As his mentor, CPA Fritz Grant took an interest in him and made sure he was well versed in tax preparation. That early mentoring would serve Gay well in later years. He is also thankful to Dr. Anna Price who helped him get into the University of Miami Masters Program where he received his Masters Degree in taxation, having already earned his undergraduate degree in Accounting from Howard University in Washington, D.C. After serving as Comptroller and Chief Financial Officer for the Universal Truth Center and its affiliated national Universal Foundation for Better Living, its Community Development Corporation and its Universal Academy, Gay took a leap of faith in leaving the stability of employments to be devoted to his little company in his mom’s garage full-time. Gay’s faith in his abilities and in God’s provision has enabled him to make a real difference in the lives of others. Gay also acknowledges the support of Bishop Victor T. Curry who encouraged him to trust God and move forward with his dreams.
John Gay has been blessed to have wonderful family support as the foundation of his success. With the combination of his mother, Nadine Gay-Bendross who nurtured him, and grandmother Ada J. Barnes, who encouraged him, John grew up knowing that success was not only possible, but expected. He credits his father, Patrick Bendross, with showing him what a real man looks like and for challenging him to take responsibility for his life as a young man.
John Gay gives every individual and business owner this piece of advice: help someone else, mentor children and other adults, promote cultural awareness, speak and connect with those who seek you out. He is concerned that as a nation, we are losing that bridge that connects one generation to another, that bridge that connects one person in a key position to another. There was a time when communities took care of themselves in every regard and thus they were stronger for it.
